MS - Responding to a Track - 'Revelry' by Kings of Leon

1.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZyGWg0uqkw

2.) I think that ‘Revelry’ by ‘Kings of Leon’ would be in the Alternative/Indie Rock genre. I think it would fit into this genre because it has the classic characteristics of the alternative rock genre, which would be the typical instruments of the genre, which are electric guitar, bass guitar and drums. Although these instruments could be seen as typical for all sub genres of the Rock genre, ‘Revelry’ has a much slower, calmer rhythm to it than a traditional rock song.

3.) I think that the track would represent a lo-fi video as the song has a melancholy feeling to it, so a high-fi video could give this song a very different feeling.

4.) Videos that would be comparable to ‘Revelry’ would be; ‘House Of Cards’ by ‘Radiohead’ and ‘Soul Meets Body’ by ‘Death Cab for Cutie’. Both these videos are from the same genre and have the same slow, melancholy feel to them.

5.) Although I could not find the exact budget for the video of ‘House Of Cards’ I discovered that it was a low budget video and now lights or cameras were used, they used a revolving scanner instead which gave the video an extremely unique and different look.

6.) The video would begin with a man in a club, dancing. He spots his ex-girlfriend and has to leave. She chases after him calling his name, he doesn’t want to speak to her, it is too painful as he still loves her; even though it was him who ended the relationship. Even though the time they spent together was very special to him, he was never truly happy. The video would depict him drinking and smoking as he is depressed due to not being truly happy.

7.) Suitable places for filming would be a club and a pub as there are references to dancing, drinking and smoking. Another suitable place for filming would be some woods as woods are specifically mentioned in the lyrics.

8.) The characters in the video would obviously have to be the band as well as the man and his ex-girlfriend. The singer has quite a deep voice so this will have to be kept in mind when choosing our cast

9.) I believe a lo-fi video to be suitable for this particular song; therefore it is unlikely that any pro-filmic special affects will be used. In post production however, we may decide to use a filter to give the video more of a moody feeling

10.) We would need to employ 4 men to play the band, another man to play the male and a female to play his ex-girlfriend

  1. some very good comments Mark, the treatment would need a bit of a rethink however so footage taken in a club would be poor quality and also teenagers smoking and drinking comes across as a bit unimaginative, however I like the bit in the woods, that could be extended in some way.

  2. Mark, really loving the song and i can see where your coming from with your treatment but do you not think it would be quite difficult to shoot in a club or something, because theyre will be drunk people as well as potential damage to the camera, and we dont want to be spending loads of money to go to loads of clubs if we dont get the right shots we want... but i do think its a good song and we can see if we can work it out perhaps with different locations
